Val’s work has been juried into Art Shows in Headwaters, Elora, Stouffville and she has twice won Jurors Awards at the Headwaters Festival and the Fabric Award and a Third Place overall award at the ‘Insights’ Exhibition. A Professor from the University of Guelph School of Art – jurying at the Elora show – called her work ” painting with fabric “.
Val is a retired high school history teacher who came to Canada in 2000 to be near her grandsons as they grew up. As a long term needlewoman who had done some quilting in England she was immediately captivated and inspired by the craftsmanship of the many outstanding quilters she met here and by the availability of a vast array of wonderful fabrics. She began with making traditional quilt designs but soon moved on to creating abstract compositions as ‘pictures’ in fabric and fibre concentrating on colour and texture to please and excite the viewer.
